Export financing from Eksfin played a key role in shipowner/operator Purus’s decision to contract two advanced vessels from Norwegian shipbuilder Vard – in strong competition with international yards.

Eksfin collaborates with Citibank

Purus ordered two CSOVs from Vard shipyard in Norway, supported by Export Finance Norway’s (Eksfin) buyer’s credit facility, with Citibank in London serving as the lender. The financing covers two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) from Vard Group. The first vessel, Purus Chinook, was delivered in the second quarter of 2025, while the second vessel is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026.

Purus Chinook was outfitted at Vard Søviknes in Norway, following hull construction in Romania. The second vessel will be built in Vietnam, with a significant share of Norwegian content.

A Versatile Green Shipping Portfolio

The new vessel will be operated by energy company Vestas for the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe.

Founded in 2022, Purus is a prominent player in the offshore wind market. The wider Purus Group also has investments in other shipping with a strong low-carbon profile, including LNG and ammonia, crew transfer vessels (CTVs), and feeder containerships, in addition to offshore wind.

Vessels powered by the very wind farms they serve

Purus Chinook, named after a North American wind, is a CSOV of Vard 4 19 design. The vessel is developed for extended offshore operations at wind farms located far from shore and is designed to remain on station for two to three weeks at a time. Capable of accommodating up to 120 personnel, the vessel features a “stepless walk-to-work” system, operable at heights of 15 to 30 metres above sea level. It is equipped with a hybrid battery system that is prepared for offshore charging from the wind farm’s own power grid. The vessel is also pre-configured for potential future operation on methanol.

Eksfin has previously also provided financing for two vessels in which Purus holds a co-ownership stake.
