Sustainability at Eksfin
What to expect from the sustainability process with us
Responsible business
Our expectations?
Responsible business conduct is about being aware of your own sustainability risks and understanding how the company’s activities affect people, society, and the environment. Our expectation:
- Respect human rights
- Protect the environment
- Safeguard workers’ rights
- Avoid corruption
We expect your company to carry out due diligence to avoid harm to people, society, and the environment. You must assess your own operations, supply chain, and business partners.
Process
How we work with you for sustainability
Eksfin has a risk-based approach to sustainability assessments. Increased risk and potential negative impacts of the project require us to take a deeper approach in our evaluation. 5 steps:
Screening
We start with an initial risk assessment of environmental and social factors. This gives us an impression of your company and whether we can proceed with the project. This assessment is based on your financing application and any additional information provided.
Short-term financing (under 2 years) of up to 50 million NOK is considered low risk. This means that we do not conduct a sustainability assessment. This only applies to projects in Norway. All other projects move on to the next step in the process.
We encourage you to consult our sustainability team as early as possible in the application process.
Collect documentation
We will ask you for information such as project descriptions, building permits, and due diligence assessments.
In some cases, we conduct an on-site inspection of the project location to get an impression of the conditions on the ground.
Consideration and decision
Based on our investigations, we assess the project against our requirements for responsible business conduct. Your project will be categorized as risk class A, B, or C, and together we will develop an action plan to reduce the project’s risk. It is Eksfin’s credit committee that makes the final decision on project financing.
Read more about risk classes A, B, and C and what the classification means for you in practice.
Enter agreement
If the project is approved, Eksfin will enter into an agreement with your company, or your bank. The action plan from step 3 will be part of the agreement. You will also need to sign an exporter declaration, which commits you to addressing environmental and social aspects related to the export contract.
Monitoring
Eksfin’s sustainability team will continue to follow up on your project to ensure that the terms of the agreement are met. For example, we may request regular reporting and conduct site visits if necessary
